Privacy policies are written by lawyers, for lawyers. We had to write one of those, too. But we also think you should understand what it actually means.
Here is the plain-language translation of our privacy policy. No legalese, just the facts about what data exists when you use Instaustad.
The Core Truth
We don't want your personal data
What We Collect (and Don't)
Let's start with the honest admission: "We don't collect your data" doesn't mean zero data exists. When you visit any website, the server keeps logs. Our web server logs include your IP address, your browser type, and the time you visited. This is standard infrastructure necessary to keep the site running and stop DDoS attacks.
But here is what we don't collect: we have no user accounts. We don't save a history of what links you search for. We don't build personal profiles of our users. Once you close the tab, your session is gone.
Law Enforcement Requests
What happens if law enforcement asks for data about a specific user? The short answer is: we comply with valid legal requests, but we don't have much to give.
Because we don't require accounts and don't log search histories tied to identities, a subpoena would at most yield server logs showing an IP address visited the site at a specific time. We cannot tell anyone what you searched for, because we don't know ourselves.
We wrote the actual privacy policy in legal language because the law requires us to. We wrote this article because trust requires it.
